A fire early Monday afternoon that destroyed a home on Ocean Road in Alcolu thankfully did not injure the home's occupant, according to Clarendon Fire Chief Frances Richbourg. Richbourg said late Monday night that the woman living in the home in the 1100 block of Ocean Road heard a pop coming from her bedroom. "When she went to the bedroom, it was filled with smoke," Richbourg said. "She shut the door, and then left the home and called 911." Richbourg said the home sustained about $70,000 in damages and another $25,000 to its contents.
