John William Cole, 93, husband of Betty Jo Ridgeway died Saturday, May 3, 2014, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence after an extended illness.

Born in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late John Gilbert Cole and Eunice Rush Cole.

He was a World War II Army Air Corps Veteran, a member of the Ruritans, American Legion, The Gideons Association, former president of Sumter Dairies, Charter member of The Turbeville Southern Methodist Church, Board of Stewards, former Trustee, choir, and Sunday school teacher. He was a retired farmer and formerly employed with East Clarendon Insurance Agency.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Stella Rivers Cole; one daughter, Carol Ann Cole; one brother, Julian Ingram Cole.

Survivors besides his wife of the home include a daughter, Linda (Herbert) Mims of Turbeville; a sister, Vera (Jimmy) Ruffin of Andrews; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at the Turbeville Southern Methodist Church, with burial in the Thomas Cemetery near Olanta, directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Monday, May 5, 2014, at the funeral home.
