Leon "Nunnie" Eady Sr., 83, widower of Mary Johnson Eady, died Thursday, April 24, 2014, at his home in New Zion.

Born Sept. 16, 1929, in New Zion, he was a son of the late Anna Eady. He attended Clarendon County public Schools. He left South Carolina and moved to Maryland, where he worked in construction for more than three decades. Most of that time was spent in the Bethlehem Steel Plant in Sparrow Point, Md. Upon retiring, he returned to South Carolina to farm his land and make barbecue and homemade sausages.

He attended Lodebar AME Church in New Zion. He was married to the late Mary Johnson, and that union was blessed with three children. Later he met the late Lynn Lucas, and that union was blessed with three children. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Lynn.

Survivors include five sons, Leon (Dona) Eady Jr. of Randallstown, Md., Dennis Eady and Venel Lucas, both of Baltimore, Roscoe (Pat) McGill Jr. of Charleston and Jeffery Eady of Manning; a daughter, Sharon (Leon) Eady-Corbert; two sisters, Mary Johnson and Lottie Eady, both of Baltimore; two brothers, Daniel Eady of Baltimore and John (Elvena) Eady of New Zion; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Lodebar AME Church, 10695 Black River Road in New Zion, with the Rev. Francis Dennison, pastor, officiating. The Rev. Jerome McCray assisted. Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery.
