Georgia, Davis sworn-in for new terms

Manning City Councilwoman Diane Georgia and Councilman Ervin Davis were sworn-in for new terms on Monday night during the regular meeting of City Council. Georgia won re-election on April 8 against opponent Janice Coney, while Davis ran unopposed for his seat.

Wyboo Community Church yard and bake sale

Wyboo Community Church, 12135 S.C. 260 near the dam at Randolph’s Landing, will hold a yard and bake sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 3 — rain or shine — at the church. There will be lots of great deals on clothing, furniture, dishes, bedding, toys, books, etc. The church will sell food as well. If you are cleaning out your garage, house, attic, etc., and wish to donate to the yard sale, you may call (803) 478-4042. Rental spaces are available for $10 per table by calling that same number.

John David “Peanut” Lea Sr.

John David “Peanut” Lea Sr., 72, husband of Bernice Buena Welch Lea, died Sunday, April 20, 2014, at his home.

John-LeaBorn Sept. 8, 1941, in Holly Hill, he was a son of the late Stubo Lea and Mary Elizabeth Daniels Lea. He owned and operated Lea’s Outlet Store in Manning for many years.

Survivors besides his wife include a daughter, Lisa Sheppard (Shep) of Manning; a granddaughter, Cameron Sheppard of Manning; a sister, Twettie Hill of Aiken; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, David Lea; and a brother, Jimmy Lea.

Robert Andrew Sichi

SANTEE – Robert Andrew Sichi, 76, husband of Sandra Mae Lynn Sichi, died Sunday April 20, 2014, at his home.

Born Feb. 13, 1938, in Glencoe, Ohio, he was a son of the late Andrew Sichi and Helen Kravanya Sichi.  He was a retired public utilities worker, a mason and was a member of Glencoe United Methodist Church.

Survivors besides his wife include a daughter, Debbie (Ed) Haines of Canal Fulton, Ohio; a son, Jim (Mary Rider) Sichi of Brownsville, Pa.; two grandchildren, Stephanie (Jason) Bake and Stacy Haines; and two great-grandchildren, Will Bake and Emily Bake.

Providence Christian Church crowns Little Master, Queen

Providence Christian Church held a Little Master/Queen Contest on March 30 in the church sanctuary. Contestants included Cameron Miller, who was escorted by Maricellan McDonald; Gabriella Lockhart, who was escorted by Gabrielle Mouzon; Sharlisa Witherspoon, who was escorted by Jaheim Billie; and Chandler Brunson, who was escorted by Laila Owens. Cameron Miller was crowned as Little Master, while Sharlisa Witherspoon was crowned Little Queen. Both were presented their distinctions by the Rev. Dr. Bennie Colclough. The Rev. Arkus Frierson delivered the message for the service.

Thelma Kathryn “Kathy” Flowers

ANDALUSIA, Ala. – Thelma Kathryn “Kathy” Flowers, 57, died Sunday, April 13, 2014, at her home in Andalusia.

Kathy-Flowers-001Born April 16, 1956, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late William Oliver White, Sr. and Thelma White.  She was a member of the Beva Baptist Church of Andalusia.

Survivors include two daughters, Jessica Lowder (Bill) of Manning and Dana Walton (Brad) of Florida; one brother, Billy White (Pat) of Manning; a sister, Linda McClendon (Don) of Georgia; and three grandchildren, Bailey and Thomas Lowder and Miles Walton.

Wreck with no injury on Interstate 95 Northbound in Clarendon County

South_Carolina_Highway_PatrolThe S.C. Highway Patrol is currently responding to a wreck that occurred about 1:30 p.m. Monday, with no injuries reported, at the 130 mile-marker in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 between Alcolu and Turbeville. Traffic may be slower during this time.

Manning City Council meeting at 6:30 p.m.

The regular meeting of Manning City Council will be held 6:30 p.m. today at City Hall. Use the North Mill Street entrance and take the stairs to council chambers. The agenda includes the swearing-in of Councilwoman Diane D. Georgia and Councilman Ervin L. Davis Sr., both of whom were re-elected in the municipal election held April 8. Georgia was opposed by Janice Coney, while Davis had no opposition. Council members will also discuss a contract for $932,479 with Hawkins & Kolb Construction for the city’s new Fire Station.

COLUMBIA (AP) — South Carolina may spend $27 million next fiscal year on continued efforts to secure taxpayers’ personal data and provide another year of credit protection following the 2012 hacking at the state’s tax collection agency.

SUMMERTON — Robert Lewis Fralix, husband of Maxine Walling Fralix, died Thursday, April 17, 2014.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg with burial at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Orangeburg.

Survivors besides his wife of Summerton include two daughters, Susan Glasser and Sandra Fralix Shapiro, both of Orangeburg; and three sons, Richard Lewis Fralix and Robin Alan Fralix, both of Summerton, and Chris Michael (Stacy) Fralix of Orangeburg.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Orangeburg.
