Toddler’s mom posts bond; mother’s boyfriend still in custody

The mother of a 2-year-old girl who is still recovering in a Columbia pediatric intensive care unit from injuries received in an alleged beating has posted bond, according to Clarendon County Detention Center Director Shelton Hughes.

Courtney Chamberlin, 24, of 1584 Lands End Drive in Pinewood, was charged with accessory after the fact to attempted murder and unlawful neglect of a child on Thursday by the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office. Her boyfriend, Andrew Billups, was charged with attempted murder. Chamberlin posted a $30,000 surety bond on Friday evening, Hughes said, through Anderson Bail and Bond Services

Richard Ray promoted to captain with S.C. Highway Patrol

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Highway Patrol announced Monday that Richard Ray of Sumter has been promoted to captain over the Highway Patrol Telecommunications Unit, which provides dispatch communication to troopers and other state Department of Public Safety law enforcement.

Richard-RayThe Sumter native has been with SCHP since 1996. Ray will oversee five Telecommunications Centers statewide. Telecommunications Officers dispatch troopers to collision scenes and other calls for service and provide officers with accurate and timely information necessary for their safety and motorists’ safety.


Library to hold Free Comic Book Day

Relay, Main Street invite everyone to ‘Paint the Town Purple’

Main Street Manning and Clarendon County Relay for Life encourages everyone to Paint the Town Purple. Businesses and residents are encouraged to decorate with any purple, from ribbon to flowers to streamers, bows and merchandise. They are asking for displays to be up today through May 9, when Relay will be held from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. at Manning High School’s Ramsey Stadium. Missing child found

A Summerton child reported missing this morning in the 1200 block of Luke Godwin Road in Summerton is safe and sound, according to the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office. Maj. Kipp Coker said about 8:30 a.m. that a 4 year old was reportedly missing, but said about 8:50 a.m. that the child had been found.
