The mother of a 2-year-old girl who is still recovering in a Columbia pediatric intensive care unit from injuries received in an alleged beating has posted bond, according to Clarendon County Detention Center Director Shelton Hughes. Courtney Chamberlin, 24, of 1584 Lands End Drive in Pinewood, was charged with accessory after the fact to attempted murder and unlawful neglect of a child on Thursday by the Clarendon County Sheriff's Office. Her boyfriend, Andrew Billups, was charged with attempted murder. Chamberlin posted a $30,000 surety bond on Friday evening, Hughes said, through Anderson Bail and Bond Services Billups was granted a $20,000 cash or $40,000 surety bond and remains in custody. He will be represented by Manning attorney Shaun Kent. Chamberlin's attorney is unknown, Hughes said. Maj. Kipp Coker of the Clarendon County Sheriff's Office said the 2-year-old girl is recovering, and "last I heard, she was doing good." The child was treated at Clarendon Memorial Hospital last Tuesday evening for bruises, internal injuries and head trauma. Deputies reported seeing scratches on the child's skin, and she had to be transported with a neck brace.
