DMV revokes Craig's Used Cars' license

The state Department of Motor Vehicles has revoked a local used car dealership's license after a six-month investigation, according to Manning Police Chief Blair Shaffer. Craig's Used Cars - owned by Mike Dozier - has been allegedly failing to produce proper tags for cars sold to customers, Shaffer said. "We started to notice cars running around town with expired paper tags (about six months ago)," Shaffer said on Tuesday. "We started stopping cars. From what we were finding out, (these customers) were given the run-around at Craig's. They were coming up with all kinds of excuses." The dealership allegedly told customers that it either didn't have the paperwork yet, or it would provide another bill of sale that extended the time to get proper tags. "It would give them, in some cases, another 45 days or even more than 50 days," Shaffer said. "Legally, you can only have 45 days in South Carolina before you need proper tags." Shaffer said as many as 200 drivers could ultimately be affected, with nearly half of those in Clarendon County. Dozier owns a lot with the same name in Florence.
