Sheriff's office and family seek information in Feb. 6 slaying

Clarendon County Sheriff Randy Garrett and family members of an 18-year-old North Carolina man shot and killed in a Feb. 6 home invasion addressed the media Friday morning, pleading for members of the community to come forward with information about the slaying of Johnte Shaheed Holliday. Holliday, a native of Raeford, N.C., was staying at his uncle's Furse Road home in Summerton seeking a job in the area when he let in two men into the home in the early morning hours of Feb. 6, thinking the men were his uncle's acquaintances.
The two men demanded money and shots were fired, Garrett said, and Holliday did not survive. On Feb. 11, Anthony Thomas James, 23, was arrested and charged with murder in connection with the incident. On Friday Garrett said investigators think the second suspect is still in the area. He also said his team is working hard to bring closure to the case. "The family wants it and we want it," he said. "We're urging the citizens to help." Garrett also said leads in the case are "going a little cold at this time," and explained that anyone can provide information anonymously. "He was a great kid," said LaSharon Thomas, Holliday's mother, who was unable to fight back tears as she talked about the impact her son had on her and everyone around him. After the slaying, Thomas said she was numb for over a week, and has spent many hours crying and wondering why someone would kill her son. "It's like I'm in a dark hole and can't get out," she said. If anyone has any information, they are urged to contact the Clarendon County Sheriff's Office at (803) 434-4414 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. People can also leave anonymous tips here:
