Statement from Sen. Kevin Johnson concerning National Linemen Appreciation Day

Posted

As a state senator representing Senate District 36, the safety and goodwill of my constituents and of all South Carolinians is of utmost importance. This winter has been a trying one for us all, with multiple snow and ice storms. We’ve seen dangerous road conditions and school and business closings across the state. Throughout these situations are the dependable linemen of our local utilities and energy companies, including Duke Energy, Santee Electric Co-op and Black River Electric Co-op, who work to keep us all safe.

I support U.S. Rep. (Mick) Mulvaney for his proposed legislation that would designate March 31 (today) as National Linemen Appreciation Day. This day is for the men and women who leave their families behind to risk their own lives for others. This day is for those responsible for keeping the lights on for the hundreds of thousands of families and businesses across our state, regardless of the weather conditions.

The job of a lineman is often left unrecognized. Long hours, days and nights are spent serving the people of South Carolina. I’m thankful for these men and women and believe it’s only fitting to have a day devoted to their hard work and ongoing support. Thank you to the linemen of South Carolina for your efforts

KEVIN L. JOHNSON
