Gregory A. Witherspoon, 53, died Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Agape Hospice House, 14 W. South Street in Columbia.
Born Sept. 4, 1960, in Manning, he was a son of Rosa Ann Witherspoon Garrett and the late Willie Albert Dixon. He attended Clarendon County public schools and graduated from Denmark Technical College with a degree in electronics. He was employed by Frontier Communications in Sumter for 16 years. He served in the U.S. Army for two years. He was a member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church and served on the Trustee Board there. He had served on Manning City Council since 1995.
Survivors besides his mother of Manning include two daughters, Shaquan (Anthony) Brown of Columbia and Kenya Parker of Manning; a son, Gregory Dingle of Manning; four sisters, Sharon Witherspoon, Shirley Ann Witherspoon and Michelle Witherspoon, all of Manning, and Cassandra Dixon of Miami, Fla.; two brothers, James Dixon and Willie Dixon Jr., both of Miami; an uncle, Mack Hodge of Bronx, N.Y.; and four granddaughters.
Celebratory services were held Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, 105 Dinkins St. in Manning, with the Rev. George P. Windley Sr., pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Manning Cemetery.
The family received friends at the home of his mother, 9 Harvin St. in Manning.
These services were entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.
