Charles W. King, 78, husband of Ernestine Rheames King, died Monday, March 24, 2014, at his home, 1312 Crestview Lane in Manning.

Born Oct. 8, 1935, in Manning, he was a son of the late Rev. Emanuel L King and Lena Dozier King. He attended Manning Training High School. He was employed by Daniel's Equipment Co. and Witherspoon Farms. He was a member of William Chapel Christian Church, where he was a church sexton.

Survivors besides his wife of the home include two daughters, Charlotte King of Manning and Willette (Roger) Gaiter of the home; three sons, Elbert “Chip” Rheames and Ronald King, both of Manning, and Bobby (Diane) Richburg of Atlanta; six sisters, Sadie (Melvin) Lampkin, Addie Montgomery, Hagar King and Edith Smalls, all of Manning, Ida (Richard) Pompey of Greeleyville and Rosa (Allen) Wilson of Florence; three brothers, the Rev. Damon (Helen) King of Paterson, N.J., Emanuel (Jannnette) King Jr. of Sumter and Herbert (Edith) King of Manning; an additional sister-in-law, Diane Walker of Baltimore, Md.; three additional brothers-in-law, John, Jimmy and Larry Timbers, all of Washington, D.C.; a mother-in-law, Hettie J. Johnson of Baltimore; and four grandchildren.

Celebratory services for Mr. King will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at William Chapel Christian Church, U.S. 521 East in Manning, with Pastor Emanuel Evans officiating, assisted by the Rev. David Woods and Minister Napoleon Bradford. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery.

Mr. King will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.

The family will receive friends at the home.
