The Rev. James Howell Spires, 78, of Hodge Circle in Manning, widower of Ruth Marie Davidson Spires, died Saturday, March 22, 2014.
Born in Aiken, he was a son of the late Cola Blease Spires and Emma Lowe Spires Knight. He pastured a number of churches in West Virginia, Tennessee, Florida and South Carolina. The Rev. Spires was a member of Manning Baptist Temple in Manning.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy (Richard) Barwick of Manning and Terry (Guy) Spires-Vaughan of Ringgold, Ga.; a son, Julian Lee (Ann) Spires of Proctorille, Ohio; two sisters, Miriam Carrow of North Augusta and Jean (Bobby) Thomas of Social Circle, Ga.; six grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Celebration of life services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Manning Baptist Temple, with the Rev. William Jeffers officiating.
The family will greet friends at the church immediately following services.
