Abraham “Rev” Miller, 68, of Columbia, husband of Ruth Agnes Miller, died Saturday, March 8, 2014.

Born May 21, 1945, in Manning, he was a son of the late Temple Miller Sr. and Corine Dingle Miller. He attended Clarendon County public schools. At an early time in his life, he accepted our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ while attending Mt. Zion AME Church. He later joined Progressive Church of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, where he was baptized and received the gift of the Holy Ghost.

He moved to Columbia in the late 1960s, where he worked as a cook at several restaurants and became employed with the City of Columbia as a sanitation department worker for 20 years.

On Jan. 13, 1971, he married the devoted Ruth Agnes Richbourg, and from this union they were blessed with two beautiful daughters. During the remainder of his life, he served whomever was in his presence with a song, a wave of “hello,” a smile, a laugh, food, shelter, transportation, words of encouragement, a hug, a handshake and, last but not least, a tune from his piano and harmonica.

He was a man who knew and shared the word of God with anyone who would listen. His kindness, love, giving spirit and concern for others will be greatly missed by his family and a number of other relatives and friends who loved him.

He was preceded in death by five sisters, Annabelle Poinsette, Ernestine Jenkins, Vinia Mae Ingram, Julia Simpson and Queen Ester Miller Young; four brothers, Leon Miller, Willie Troy Miller, Jarrett Miller and Shelbert Miller; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Spigner.

Survivors besides his devoted and faithful wife of 43 years include two daughters, Karen (Darnell) Miller Williams of Irmo and Quanda Corine Miller of Grand Forks Air Force Base, N.D.; a grandson, Khalil Devon Coward of Irmo; a granddaughter, Cierra Christine Williams of Irmo; a step-granddaughter, Christina Jamaria Williams of Augusta, Ga.; his siblings, Nellie Cheak Miller of Honolulu, Temple (Shirley) Miller Jr. and Arnett (Mary) Miller, both of Hampton, Va., Sam (Elizabeth) Hardy Miller of Sumter, Jonah Harrison (Ruth) Miller of Irvington, N.J., and Aquila (Shirley) Miller of Denmark; four sisters-in-law, Mary Johnson, Deloris Hodge, Maedean Brown and Vernon (Calvin) McConico; and three brothers-in-law, Christopher (Jestine) Richbourg, Praise Worthy “P.W.” Richbourg and Johnnie (Virginia) Brown.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Progressive Church of the Lord Jesus Christ with burial at Serenity Memorial Gardens.
