Black History Program held at Manning Jr. High

Most people know about The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. And Frederick Douglass, an ardent abolitionist and fiery orator, is well known, as are Rosa Parks, Marcus Garvey and Malcolm X. But the contributions of African Americans throughout history, from slavery to the present time, are a major part of American history, Sen. Kevin Johnson, D-36, told the audience Friday morning at Manning Jr. High. "Even I have opportunities that my grandparents could only dream of," he said. Remaining focused and working hard will result in the achievement of goals. "Without a doubt, education is the key." For a full story on the program, see the March 6 edition of The Manning Times.
