SUMTER – Emma Jane Garland McFadden died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at Family Residential Care Home in Sumter.

Born July 27, 1913, in Turbeville, she was a daughter of the late Fred Garland Sr. and Martha Jane Garland. She was the third child out of seven siblings, and attended Clarendon County public schools. She was married to Pinkney McFadden, and this union was blessed with two children.

She accepted Christ and joined Union Hill Baptist Church in Turbeville. She worked for many years as a practical nurse, taking care of babies, which was her love. She was very caring of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, Valdalster McFadden of Sumter; a daughter, Pinky (Dewitt Sr.) Walker of Sumter; a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; and a number of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Paul, Fred Jr., Clarence Henry, Westly and Garland; and a sister, Robirtha Fleming.

A public viewing will be held from 2-7 p.m. today at Job’s Mortuary, 312 S. Main St. in Sumter.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday in the parlor of Job’s Mortuary Inc., with the Rev. Dr. Marion H. Newton presiding and the Rev. Willie Wright as eulogist. Burial will follow in Union Hill Baptist Church cemetery in Turbeville.

The family will receive friends at 60 West Patricia Drive in Sumter.
