COLUMBIA – Jessie Lee Neat, widow of Joseph Neat, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at Palmetto Baptist Hospital in Columbia.

Born in Gable, she was a daughter of the late Brunson and Cora Cooper Johnson. She attended Sumter County public schools, and was a graduate of the Eastern High School Class of 1966. She moved to New York City in 1970, where she was employed by TWA Airlines until she retired. While in New York, she was a member of Highland Church in Queens, N.Y. After returning to Sumter, she reunited with her home church, Goodwill Presbyterian Church (USA) in Mayesville.

She was preceded in death by four siblings, Gladys, Sarah, James and Jerome; and a niece, Diane.

Survivors include four sisters, Ada Kirby of Sumter, Pearl Cooper and Dorothy Johnson, both of New York City, and Mary Robinson of Queens; two brothers, Bob (Eunice) Cooper and Cliff Johnson, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at Goodwill Presbyterian Church (USA), 295 N. Brick Church Road in Mayesville, with the Rev. Dr. Ella F. Busby officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family received friends at 50 Mims Road in Sumter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Goodwill Presbyterian Church (USA), 295 N. Brick Road, Mayesville, SC 29104; or to the American Cancer Society.

Palmer Memorial Chapel of Sumter handled arrangements.
