Swampcats advance to next round of SCISA playoffs

Laurence Manning Academy cruised to a 71-56 victory over Hilton Head Christian Academy Saturday night during ‘AAA’ S.C. Independent School Association playoffs at the Sumter Civic Center. The Swampcats of LMA and Eagles of HHCA battled to a 32-30 halftime mark, but the third quarter saw LMA dominate both ends of the basketball court and the Eagles were unable to regain momentum. “It was one of the better games we played all year,” said Head Coach Will Epps, whose LMA squad faced a team he described as “really athletic.” Epps was pleased with how his team played strong in transition and ran hard while battling for every possession under the rim. Mark Pipkin has been playing with a torn labrum, Epps said, and although the injury has severely restricted his shoulder motion, Pipkin turned in a solid performance nonetheless, as did Malik Green and Shakei Green. The Swampcats will face Porter Gaud of Charleston at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at the Sumter Civic Center.
