CCSO warns residents about possible scam

The Clarendon County Sheriff's Office is warning residents to be wary of young salespeople coming to their door. While they cannot guarantee these young people are perpetrating a scam, officials advise that one should always be cautious when making purchases from such salespeople. The city restricts door-to-door sales by making solicitors register; the county has no such restrictions. According to reports, residents in the Taw Caw area near Summerton began getting knocks on their door after 7 p.m. Thursday from young people selling magazines. According to residents, the stories did not match up. One young woman told homeowners that she was from a road in Sumter that was just three blocks away, and that she was a student from the University of South Carolina. She allegedly told another that she was from Myrtle Beach and a student at a college there. For more information, call the Sheriff's Office at (803) 435-4414.
