The Clarendon County Sheriff's Office is warning residents to be wary of young salespeople coming to their door.
While they cannot guarantee these young people are perpetrating a scam, officials advise that one should always be cautious when making purchases from such salespeople. The city restricts door-to-door sales by making solicitors register; the county has no such restrictions.
According to reports, residents in the Taw Caw area near Summerton began getting knocks on their door after 7 p.m. Thursday from young people selling magazines. According to residents, the stories did not match up. One young woman told homeowners that she was from a road in Sumter that was just three blocks away, and that she was a student from the University of South Carolina. She allegedly told another that she was from Myrtle Beach and a student at a college there.
