Evelyn York died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
Born Feb. 24, 1924, in the Bloomville community of Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Marion Cantey and Eather York.
Survivors include two sons raised as her own, Willie York and Franklin Thompson, both of Manning; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Mazie York of Manning.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
A service of remembrance was held Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at Holly Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 1304 Hidden Branch Road in the Bloomville community, with words of consolation brought by the Rev. O’Donald Dingle, pastor. The Rev. Bobby McDonald, Prince Sampson Pearson and Pastor Michael Abraham assisted.
Burial followed in the Holly Hill Missionary Baptist Church cemetery.
The family received friends at the home of her son, Willie “Jack” York, 311 Canal St. in Manning.
