Sen. Kevin Johnson, D-Manning, will once again update constituents in this week's Manning Times, which will be out Feb. 13.
In his column this week, Johnson talks about the re-election of state Supreme Court Chief Justice Jean H. Toal, who won a close race against Associate Justice Costa M. Pleicones. He also discussed the election of Tarita Dunbar to 13th Circuit Family Court. Dunbar is a Clarendon County native and a graduate of Manning High School.
Johnson also focuses on the South Carolina Restructuring Act of 2014, which Gov. Nikki Haley signed on Wednesday. The bill abolishes the existing Budget and Control Board, he said, giving the duties of the formerly five-member board to the Department of Administration.
"The newly created department will streamline the government processes, placing responsibility for executive and administrative functions to the cabinet-level agency," Johnson writes.
