RUSSELL BENSON ELMORE Sr.

Russell Benson Elmore Sr., 69, husband of Stella Pack Elmore, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at his home.

 

Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Theo "Buster" Elmore Sr., Mae Boykin Elmore and Pauline B. Elmore.

 

He was a member of Providence Baptist Church, where he served as an active deacon and a former Sunday school teacher. He retired as the director of Sumter County EMS. He was also a member of the Sumter Optimist Club.

 

Survivors besides his wife of Sumter include two sons, Russell B. (Anna) Elmore Jr. of Dalzell and Steven K. (Tracy) Elmore of Manning; three grandchildren, Frances Mac Elmore, Russell B. “Benson Elmore III and Coleman K. Elmore; two brothers, Gene (Cindy) Bonnette of Columbia and Danny (Rhonda) Bonnette of Sumter; and a sister, Paula (Robbie) Richardson of Sumter.

 

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Theo Elmore Jr., David Elmore and Michael Bonnette.

 

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Providence Baptist Church with the Revs. Graham Bochman, Jim Palmer and Frank Shivers officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

 

Nephews served as pallbearers.

 

Current and former employees of Sumter County EMS served as honorary pallbearers.

 

The family received friends at the home, 6740 Anglewood Drive in Dalzell.
