FLOYD L. ETHRIDGE

Floyd L. Ethridge, 70, husband of Hilda Bullock Ethridge, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia.

 

Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Alton “Red” and Gertrude Mitchum Ethridge. He was a member of Pinewood Baptist Church, a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and was formerly employed at Bendix and Martin Color-Fi.

 

Survivors besides his wife include three daughters, Tracy Ethridge, Vicky Ethridge and Amanda Baker; a special son, Tim Ethridge; five grandchildren, Sam Ethridge, Ben Ethridge, Rebecca Ethridge, Michael C. “Chad” Avin Jr. and Nicky Singleton; a great-grandchild, Bobby Singleton; two sisters, Ett Lightbody and Gail Connelly; and two brothers, Larry Ethridge and Carroll Ethridge.

 

He was preceded in death by a stepson, James Melton; and three brothers, Talmas Ethridge, Frank Ethridge and Cecil Ethridge.

 

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at Pinewood Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bennie Barwick officiating. Burial was held in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

 

Michael C. “Chad” Avin Jr., Glen Avins, Johnny Bryant, David Eargle Jr., Gerald Gainey and Nick Carter served as pallbearers. Joe Summerall served as an honorary pallbearer.
