GABLE – Billie Jennings Hawkes Nalley, 70, wife of Eugene E. Nalley Jr. died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at her home.

 

Born in Augusta, Ga., she was a daughter of the Rev. Robert J. “Bob” Hawkes and the late Margaret Burton Hawkes. She was a member of Harmony Church, and was previously employed at Emory University and Cheraw and Sumter schools.

 

Survivors besides her husband of 52 years include three children, Celeste (Stephen) Whiteley of Gable, Robbie (Deanna) Nalley of Gable and Angie (Jay) Bruner of Summerton; eight grandchildren, Casey (Tawny) Freeman, Tara Freeman, Taylor Freeman, Darah Whiteley, Sara Knight Nalley, Gracyn Nalley, Abbie Bruner and Jeb Bruner; a sister, Carol Hawkes of Alcolu; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at Harmony Church with the Revs. Drew Choate and Lee Brown officiating. Burial will be in the DuRant-New Harmony cemetery in Gable. 

 

Casey Freeman, Taylor Freeman, Todd Nalley, Mike Steele and Steven Sweeney will serve as pallbearers.

 

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home, and other times at the home.

 

Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

 

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
