Attorney Shaun Kent defends his client, Yakeisha Ward of Manning, on Thursday in Clarendon County Magistrate's Court. A jury found Ward guilty of simple assault on Friday afternoon after three hours of deliberations for her part in a shooting at a Manning Waffle House in 2009. Ward had been charged with assault and battery with intent to kill in May 2009, after a 27-year-old woman sustained a gunshot at the restaurant during a fight in which Ward had been touted as the primary aggressor by the Clarendon County Sheriff's Office. Third Circuit Judge R. Ferrell Cothran sentenced Ward to 30 days in jail, which she may serve on weekends. Kent said she will ultimately serve about eight days of that sentence.
