Clarendon firefighters rush to help with Lake City blaze

LAKE CITY - Gavin Jackson with the Florence Morning News reported Jan. 21 that the Clarendon County Fire Department was one of several agencies from three counties and other municipalities who worked a "four-alarm fire at Nan Ya Plastics south of Lake City for 90 minutes" that day. The paper quoted local fire officials, who said the response did not match the size of the fire. "Ten times more people showed up than what was needed, but I will say this: I'd rather have too many than not enough," said plant Director of Safety, Health and Environmental Control Adrian Harris. Firefighters battled the blaze by carrying gear up eight stories. Units from Olanta, Williamsburg County, Lake City, Howe Springs, Johnsonville, Kingstree, South Lynches and Hannah-Salem-Friendfield departments were toned out, and emergency management divisions from Florence and Williamsburg counties and even the S.C. Highway Patrol responded.
