By ROBERT J. BAKER mtsceditorial@gmail.com SUMMERTON – Clarendon County sheriff’s deputies detained the suspect in the shooting of a Greenwood man during what would have been an otherwise routine traffic stop on Jan. 9. Gary William Guffey, 34, of 201 Bent Creek Road in Greenwood, was stopped about 10 p.m. for a broken headlight, according to the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Department, and was quickly detained due to his suspected role in the October shooting death of a 42-year-old man. The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office reports that Lonnie Terry Cogdill of East Laurel Avenue in Greenwood was shot at his home during what investigators believe was a dispute between him, the suspect and another man. That third man, whom deputies did not identify, was arrested in October. See the Jan. 16 edition of The Manning Times for more.
